History

The Westaim Corporation has been publicly traded since 1996. Its mandate is to invest in and commercialize leading-edge technologies with large market potential.

Currently, Westaim’s technology investments include NUCRYST Pharmaceuticals, which develops, manufactures and commercializes medical products that fight infection and inflammation using its patented atomically disordered nanocrystalline silver technology, and iFire Technology, which has patented a developmental low-cost, high-performance flat panel television technology.

Westaim's common shares are listed on The Toronto Stock Exchange under the trading symbol WED.

In 2005, NUCRYST Pharmaceuticals completed an Initial Public Offering of its common shares. NUCRYST shares are now traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol NCST and on the TSX under the symbol NCS. The Westaim Corporation continues to be a majority shareholder in NUCRYST.
