Westaim Receives ISO Certification

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA - The Westaim Corporation announced today its Specialty Products division has received ISO 9002 certification -- the International Organization for Standardization registration for quality in manufacturing and service.

The ISO certification includes Westaim's ultrafine cobalt powder used in cutting tools and other industrial applications.

"This investment in ISO and our recent multi-million dollar expansion in our plant capacity reaffirms our commitment to the Fine Cobalt business and positions Westaim as a world class supplier of cobalt and nickel materials for hardmetal and diamond tool applications," said Hugh Wiltzen, Westaim's Fine Cobalt Product Manager.

"The attainment of this internationally recognized certification is an important milestone for our business and is indicative of Westaim's commitment to be a long term, dependable supplier of high quality products and services to our customers around the world," added Lee Doty, Vice President of Westaim's Specialty Products division.

The ISO certification also covers Westaim's classified nickel powders and abradable thermal spray powders for applications in gas turbine engines.

The Westaim Corporation, which operates primarily in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced industrial materials for the aerospace, electronics and other industrial application markets worldwide. The company currently produces and markets fine cobalt powders, turbine engine materials, industrial chemical and coin blanks. Products which are in the developmental stage include battery materials, coking-resistant coatings, electroluminescent flat panel displays, biomedical coatings, electronic ceramics and structural ceramics.
