CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA – Ian W. Delaney, Chairman, and Barry M. Heck, President & CEO, announced today that Michael B.C. Davies and G. Wesley Voorheis have been appointed to The Westaim Corporation’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Davies is Principal at Davies & Co., which specializes in mergers and acquisitions, investment banking and principal investing. Prior to founding Davies & Co., Mr. Davies was Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets where he co-led the firm’s mergers and acquisitions group. He currently serves as a director of RBC Capital Partners, ECHOEX Ltd., and Keyspan Facilities Income Fund.

Mr. Voorheis is a partner and founder of Voorheis & Co. where he advises clients on corporate and governance matters. Prior to founding Voorheis & Co., Mr. Voorheis was a partner of Davies Ward & Beck, where he focused on mergers, acquisitions and securities law.
The appointments of Mr. Davies and Mr. Voorheis followed consultation with some of the company’s largest institutional shareholders and is pursuant to the intention announced by the company in its annual Information Circular to increase the size of its Board of Directors from eight members to ten. Both new directors will participate on a newly formed strategic review committee of the Board along with Neil Carragher and Bruce Walter that will consider all strategic options available to Westaim to maximize shareholder value.
